Medical School Updates 2.20.21
SUNY Schools announced a statewide program to increase pipeline opportunities for economically underserved students interested in medical school through their Educational Opportunity Program.
To be eligible for admission to EOP you must be:
A New York State resident for 12 months prior to enrollment;
Require special admissions consideration; and
Qualify as economically disadvantaged according to the guidelines. In selecting students for the program, priority is given to applicants from historically disadvantaged backgrounds.
The new Pre-med Opportunity Program (Pre-OP) will provide academic support, mentorship, clinical exposure, assistance with MCAT preparation, academic coaching, and workshops to participating students.
The SUNY Pre-Op is set to begin in Summer 2021 with 25 students, which would be expanded based on initial results and further funding.
To be considered for the program, candidates must:
be a SUNY EOP sophomore or junior on a pre-medical track
have a grade point average of 3.2 or higher
have successfully completed two semesters of general chemistry and two semesters of biology.
UNLV received full accreditation from the LCME. This follows a preliminary accreditation by the body in 2016 and another provisional accreditation in 2019. UNLV Medicine’s full accreditation shows the school meets or exceeds “national standards for structure, function, and performance,” according to a statement released by the school Friday.
