Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, a private, non profit, historically Black Institution in LA received a 7.7 million dollar grant from Bloomberg philantrhopies allowing them to deduct up to 100,000 from each Black and Latino student’s debt. this grant will benefit 82 current students. Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, Meharry Medical College in Nashville, and Morehouse school of Medicine in Atlanta were also recipients of grant money based on their student population.
Alabama Gov Kay Ivey announced an investment of 50 million dollars for a new medical school in Mobile, Alabama associates with the University of South Alabama.
The Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine is under construction and has reached candidacy status for accreditation. The school will be located at the former State Office Building in downtown Wichita. The school plans to address a shortage of doctors in the state.
Baylor College of Medicine will establish a relationship with Baylor Scott and White Health with a campus in Temple ,TX, while Texas A&M is moving its Temple campus to Dallas. Baylor Scott & White is the most extensive nonprofit health system in the state, with 52 hospitals. In 2023 the first class of 40 students will begin there.
Morehouse School of Medicine enters $100 million partnership to train more Black doctors.
